Public Water Supply Rules
Proposed Revisions
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) requests comments on its possible revisions to rules governing public water supplies, Minnesota Rules, parts 4720.0010 to 4720.5000, 4720.5100, 4720.9005 and 4720.9045.
MDH reviews and approves plans for any public water system infrastructure prior to installation to ensure water treatment, piping, storage, and other construction meets the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and other codes and standards.
The proposed revisions are expected to clarify and improve rule implementation for users, streamline the plan review process and improve accuracy of rule references.
Revisions will:
- update outdated references to codes, methods, and standards;
- delete references to addresses;
- delete sections that are now incorporated by reference to the SDWA;
- consolidate definitions sections;
- update outdated language style; and
- address other subjects, as time permits.
The Department has not yet drafted the possible rule amendments and does not anticipate that a draft of the rule amendments will be available before the publication of the proposed rules.
