Orientation to MDH for new public health leaders: June 8, 2022

Attendees
People new to the following positions in the past three years were welcome to join in person:
- CHS administrators
- Local public health leadership (director, manager, supervisor)
- Tribal public health leadership
- Community health board members
- Local elected officials (county board members, city council members)
- State Community Health Services Advisory Committee (SCHSAC) members and alternates
Others were welcome to join virtually if they had a longer tenure in their position, would like to review the content, or were interested.
Learning objectives
- Meet MDH leadership and staff
- Become more familiar with MDH, SCHSAC, and the Local Public Health Association of Minnesota (LPHA) as organizations
- Learn how MDH, tribes, and local health departments work together to strengthen our statewide public health system
- Learn of, and network with, key contacts at MDH
- Meet the MDH public health lab director find out how to "tour" the lab
- Network with SCHSAC, local public health, and tribal colleagues
- Attend a SCHSAC meeting (limited participation for safety considerations)
Location
This event took place in person for some staff, and virtually for some staff.
There was limited opportunity for in-person participation, due to safety considerations.
- In-person participants included: New leaders already attending the June in-person SCHSAC meeting on behalf of their community health board; new tribal public health leaders
- Virtual participants included: Seasoned (3+ years) public health leaders (both local and tribal); any other interested parties; new leaders not attending the June SCHSAC meeting in person (these new leaders can be put on an in-person waitlist)
