Accessible Prescription Drug Labels
In 2024, the Minnesota Legislature passed a new law requiring all pharmacies to make accessible prescription drug labels—including large print or Braille labels—available at no additional cost by January 1, 2026. Until then, if a pharmacy does not yet have the technological capacity to provide an accessible label, the pharmacy is required to direct patients to a list of pharmacies capable of providing accessible prescription drug labels.
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) will compile and publicly post this list quarterly throughout 2025. MDH will also issue a report assessing the cost and options for providing audible prescription drug labels (Minnesota Laws of 2024, chapter 127, article 60, sections 10 and 24).
MDH is conducting a survey of all pharmacies to identify their current capacities to provide accessible prescription drug container labels. Pharmacies are required to complete the MDH Survey of Pharmacies on Accessible Drug Container Labels by November 26, 2024.
MDH will post its report and list of pharmacies capable of providing accessible prescription drug labels on this page. The first list will be published in January 2025.
