Verify a Death (1997 - present)
Use our online search index to verify a death in Minnesota that occurred in 1997 or later. (Electronic death registration began in 1997 in the state.) The index is updated whenever a “fact of death” is filed in the state vital records system. Successful searches will show the decedent's name, date of death, and the state file number for the death record.
Search
Provide either the decedent’s date of birth OR their Social Security number. If what you enter doesn’t match exactly what is on the legal death record, you will see "No record found." Failing to find a record in the index does not necessarily mean that the death is not registered.

Many 20th century deaths may be located through the Minnesota Historical Society's online People Records Search.
The "last updated" date below does NOT refer to the death record index but to this web page.
